New year 2025 and new goals!

Hello! It’s been a long time since I last shared an update on Aseanon. I hope you all had wonderful holidays! With 2025 starting, I finally managed to purchase my new PC. The purchase was made on December 20, and due to the holiday season, it’s scheduled to arrive during the 3rd or 4th week of January, likely between the 21st and 24th.

Currently, progress on the game has been slow, but I’ve managed to implement the entire first campaign, covering the initial storyline of the game’s lore. I’ve also been redesigning the missions section to better adapt it, making adjustments to the character equipment system, and working on adding new sections to enhance gameplay in meaningful ways.

The plan now is to release the new update, which introduces the campaign mode, while also solidifying the programming framework to make adding future content easier and avoid technical issues.

Since I couldn’t meet my 2024 goals, this year I plan to dedicate more time to the project, especially now that I’ll have my new PC. However, there’s a setback: the Japanese artist from whom I purchased 3D model packs was inactive throughout 2024. This puts me in a tough spot when it comes to the aesthetics of upcoming characters. While I have 4 new characters designed, I’m running out of options for diverse character visuals.

JoNi, the master modeler, only posted about discounts on his products on Twitter, which I highly recommend to anyone looking to make games. This suggests he might not have been actively modeling. Of course, I won’t bother him with private messages—it’s his life, and he has every right to do what he wants.

This brings me to the next point: I’m considering switching to a new modeler or exploring other programs that let me create waifus and export them to Blender. Koikatsu is one possibility, though it being a relatively new software might lead to copyright issues. Still, I’ve seen many games on DLsite using those models for posing and creating visual novels, so maybe they’re allowed? I’ll need to investigate further.

I also looked into another software, COM3D2 (Custom Maid 3D 2). The models are amazing, and there are many mods that add a "Medieval Fantasy" aesthetic. However, we run into the same issue… copyright concerns.

As for hiring someone to make models for me, after purchasing the new PC (which didn’t include the GPU due to budget constraints), I’m financially limited. This is why JoNi’s work was so valuable to me—I could simply buy his content without needing to communicate with a modeler. His unique aesthetic fit Aseanon perfectly.

Without a doubt, 2025 will bring many challenges and difficulties for me. I hope to rise to the occasion and deliver everything I want for Aseanon: a gacha game that everyone can enjoy without spending a single dollar, filled with rich storytelling and fun gameplay. I also aim to include secrets for curious players to uncover.

Looking to the future, I’m considering a new project. This won’t be a gacha game but will instead combine genres I’ve been playing, featuring an engaging story and gameplay. The concept is a survival/resource management game with, of course, waifus and hentai. I’ve been working on the world setting, but for now, it’s just an idea. Before starting that, I need to complete Aseanon—at least deliver a version 1.0 with three more campaigns, music, sound effects, some voiceovers, and more.

Thank you so much to everyone supporting this project. Wishing you all an amazing 2025!

It's good to have news, it's a shame that the project is in danger of losing the models, in my opinion I really liked the current models, I hope they don't change. Good luck and we wait for news.

Nice to know you are still progressing despite difficulties. I hope you got a good deal with your computer. I got mine fixed awhile ago but a bad stick of ram from the upgrades has me waiting for parts again lol.

I'm curious is it cheaper to use 3D models or 2D sprites? With the turn based nature of the game perhaps you can switch to a 2D or even "paper RPG" artstlye. Regardless of the solution, I hope you find one as collecting many different characters is a huge part of the fun with gacha.

Best wishes in the new year, I look forward to the next version!
